La energ\u00eda\u00a0fotovoltaica<\/strong>\u00a0hace tiempo que dej\u00f3 de hablar de la carrera espacial para conversar sobre autoconsumo o debatir, t\u00fa a t\u00fa, con tecnolog\u00edas tradicionales. Tras una\u00a0reducci\u00f3n de costes del 85% en 7 a\u00f1os<\/strong>, la energ\u00eda que produce el 3% de nuestra electricidad es hoy competitiva frente a formas de generaci\u00f3n contaminantes.<\/p>\n

A nivel cient\u00edfico, la energ\u00eda fotovoltaica es la\u00a0transformaci\u00f3n directa de la radiaci\u00f3n solar en electricidad<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Esta transformaci\u00f3n se produce en unos dispositivos denominados paneles fotovoltaicos. En los paneles fotovoltaicos, la radiaci\u00f3n solar excita los electrones de un dispositivo semiconductor generando una peque\u00f1a diferencia de potencial. La conexi\u00f3n en serie de estos dispositivos permite obtener diferencias de potencial mayores.<\/p>\n

Aunque el efecto fotovoltaico era conocido desde el siglo XIX, fue en la d\u00e9cada de los 50, en plena carrera espacial, cuando los paneles fotovoltaicos comenzaron a experimentar un importante desarrollo. Inicialmente utilizados para suministrar electricidad a sat\u00e9lites geoestacionarios de comunicaciones, hoy en d\u00eda constituyen una\u00a0tecnolog\u00eda de generaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica renovable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
